tweed baby blanket

Are all my friends preggers?  I sure feel like I’ve been knitting a lot of baby items lately.  But that’s ok.  I like knitting things for my friends’ babies.  And I really LOVED knitting this blanket.  Here’s why:

  1. The main part of the blanket (the gray square) is knit in garter stitch.  I happen to love garter because it’s simple and looks nice.  I also prefer to knit and love avoiding the purl stitches.  The garter stitch stays interesting since you knit the gray square as a triangle (increasing up and then decreasing).
  2. I didn’t have to cast on a million stitches.  I hate casting on and from now on I am only knitting blankets that are knit as triangles, increasing and decreasing.
  3. The yarn is beautiful.  I used Knit Picks City Tweed.  It’s soft and warm with lovely colors.  It also blocks out nicely and provides a great drapey look.
  4. It knits up very quickly.

Perhaps the only thing that I didn’t like was having to pick up so many stitches around the gray square to start the lace pattern.  You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry (it’s worth the money!) or see my Ravelry project details.  I also recommend checking out the designer’s website.  He has some beautiful projects.  I want to knit them all.
