blanket for lil’ bit

If I could pick a theme for this project, it’s “summer doesn’t last forever”.  We can all use reminders of that in these hot July days.  I am especially looking forward to fall this year since I missed it last year and am currently finishing my 15th consecutive month of summer weather.  Spending the winter in the Dominican Republic may sound really tropical and exciting, but it made me realize how much I love the cold weather and the change in seasons.

But I digress…this post is about my latest knitting project, a baby blanket for Lil’ Bit.  Lil’ Bit’s Mom shares my feelings about summer.  And she has to spend the hot summer being pregnant, which can’t be very comfortable.  Since Lil’ Bit’s gender will be a surprise until he/she arrives , I chose some gender neutral, fall colors.  The blanket is also knit with 100% Peruvian wool, which is so very fall and not summer at all.

I enjoyed knitting another blanket from triangles up and this pattern is super simple.  It’s so easy that you don’t even have to count rows, just knit until you finish the colors. Find my project on Ravelry or check out the designer’s blog with the instructions.

Here’s to one more month of summer.  And please remind me of how I was begging for cooler temperatures when I’m enduring the winter in Boston this year…

We’ll both have to remind each other during the winter how much we were craving cold weather right about now. Last winter was the first winter that I didn’t love because of not being able to get Nolan out enough. But this summer I’ve found the heat to be just as oppressive as the cold, and we hardly go anywhere. Hopefully it will let up soon.
Thanks again for the blanket!! I’ll have to send you some pics of Lil’ Bit in it this fall. Of course, my pictures never look as good as yours, but that’s ok. :)

How did you know when to start your decreases? Just somewhere in the middle of the second color?

  3. lindsay says:

Susie, I used 6 skeins of yarn (2 of each color) so I just started decreasing once I finished the 3rd skein (2 skeins of color 1, 1 skein of color 2)

  4. Susie says:

Ah, that makes sense. And it fit okay on circular needles? I’ve never made a blanket before – I have 36″ needles though that I hoped would work.

This blanket would probably fit on 36″ needles, but typically I prefer using circular needles so I don’t have to worry about the length.

If you’re using a different type of yarn, you can just count the number of rows you increase and then make sure to decrease by the same amount when you decide to start going the other direction.
