ballband dishcloth

I’ve had Christmas on the brain since mid-October.  Why?  Well, here in the Dominican Republic, people start decorating for Christmas in mid-October.  For over a month we’ve been in full on Christmas mode with a tree in the office and little Santa decorations and “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” on the radio.  [Why do they still play "White Christmas" on a tropical, humid Caribbean island?]

Even though Christmas is all around me, it doesn’t feel like the Christmas season at all.  Maybe it’s because of the tropical weather.  Maybe it’s because I don’t have Thanksgiving to mark the beginning of Christmas season.  Maybe it’s because I’m so disconnected from the fact that it’s November since I’m still wearing my July summer clothes.

I always look forward to Christmas…the cookies, music, decorations, gifts.  This year, I’m even more excited because I’ll be traveling back to Colorado from the Dominican Republic.  So in addition to all the great Christmas things, I’ll also be able to take a hot shower, wear winter clothes, ski, feel safe walking around alone, eat something besides rice and beans, speak English, etc.

In the spirit of getting ready for Christmas, I thought I’d post this easy dishcloth pattern.  If you need to knit up a few last minute gifts, these are perfect for a few reasons: 1) the pattern is super easy 2) they knit up very quickly 3) you can use endless color combos.  I knitted these obsessively over the summer.  Several of my friends received them for birthday gifts, so I can’t resort to these for Christmas…but you can!  I wish I had my stash of Sugar’n Cream yarn so I could make a few of these right now.
