Do you have all your presents wrapped and under the tree?
Or are you like me and haven’t even started shopping?
In the next few weeks of December, I’ll be posting about last minute gifts that you can make for your friends and family. Some will be craft related and others will involve food (I know it’s been a while since I had some recipes posted!)
Today’s last minute gift is a simple sewing project. Simple if you know how to sew…
If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I’m a knitter and crocheter, but not a sewer. While visiting my Aunt in East Tennessee last month, I brought along some IKEA fabric and she taught me the basics of sewing.

We used some heavy upholstery fabric to make these bags from Purl Soho (free pattern). And because my Aunt is the sewing expert, she showed me how to alter the pattern to make grocery bags with bottoms and sides. Now I have quite a few stylish grocery bags and a few book bags for every day use.
These didn’t take me too long to make and I was just learning the basics of how to cut and sew. Purl Soho calls the the Twenty Minute Tote.
If you’re a sewer, you might want to make a few of these for the people on your list! I use mine all the time. If you prefer knitting needles, make sure to check out my latest cowl patterns (here and here).
And in case you were wondering, I got all that cold and snowy weather that I wished for last week. We’ve had temperatures below 20 degrees for most of the last week in Denver with a good amount of snow.
